RIDGEONS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Wroxham 3 Mildenhall Town 1

MILDENHALL boss Trevor Munns admitted that it looks like the title will be going to Wroxham, after a clinical display saw them win this top of the table clash and go six points clear with a game in hand.

Mildenhall have been top for the majority of the season but were convincingly beaten on Saturday.

Munns said: "They are a very good side that don't have any weaknesses. I can't see them dropping many points in the run in. We've both scored 81 goals this season but they have only conceded 19 from 33 games, which is absolutely phenomenal. We've conceded 48 and that is the difference.

"We've got a tough run in, but we've got to show self-belief and earn the second place we deserve. The highest we have ever come was fifth, last year, and it would be a remarkable achievement to get the second spot."

Ben Thompson took advantage of an under-hit clearance from Mildenhall keeper Ben Nower by lobbing him from 35 yards to give Wroxham a 14th-minute lead.

Liam Harrold had Town's best chance of the half moments later but struck tamely.

Andy Key, on as a first-half substitute for Wroxham's leading scorer Lee Gilman, doubled the home side's advantage early in the second half by volleying home from eight yards after a free-kick.

Craig Hammond forced a good save in a rare Mildenhall attack before Gavin Lemmon secured the win by running past two defenders before his deflected shot beat Nower.

Wayne Goddard scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot in the final minute after Matty Clements was brought down.

Munns said: "We badly missed Neal Docking up-front. He broke his leg in two places in a reserve match last week as he was getting back to full fitness; it was easily the worst injury I've ever seen, and it all puts football in perspective. I didn't pick the team for Saturday until I was travelling to the game, and my head wasn't really with it.

"Neal's a great lad, has been with us for two years and won the players player of the year award last season. We all wish him the best of luck with his recovery."

Mildenhall play Soham away on Saturday and King's Lynn Reserves away on Wednesday.
