LITTLEPORT speedster Paul Moden enjoyed a successful weekend at Donington Park in the latest round of the AVO Ginetta Championship.
The Donington Park weekend started well with Moden, of The Brambles, on top form, with a top-five in the warm-up on Saturday morning.
And he then drove brilliantly in qualifying to be in sixth position for race one and third for race two.
At the start of race one Moden dropped down to seventh, and struggled with the car in the greasy conditions mostly because of a rear wheel which had become damaged and made the whole car vibrate.
He lost one more place to Shane Lynch, the former Boyzone star and now a very experienced racing driver, but managed to hold on to eighth.
Race two turned into a disaster for Moden.
As the start of the race drew near the sun came out and a dry line began to appear on the circuit, so the dry tyres went on.
But then moments before the cars were sent out to form up on the grid, the wind changed direction and it started to rain.
This meant Moden had to sacrifice his third-place grid spot to come into the pits for a tyre-change and start from the pit lane, along with the other seven drivers who opted for dry weather tyres.
But from the pit lane with 35 cars ahead of him Moden drove brilliantly again to fight his way up to 15th position, before the race was red-flagged because of the appalling weather.
The next round is at Castle Combe on June 24 and 25.
