SENSATIONAL strikes from two central midfielders secured Mildenhall's passage to the fourth round.

Mildenhall were made to work hard to win their first home fixture in seven consecutive FA Vase matches.

Northampton's main attacking threat came from the pace of their strikers Foster and Frost and they used this at every opportunity.

Dan Heron came close to giving Mildenhall the lead before the break but his header was well saved.

The visitors piled on the pressure in the early stages of the second half and came close to opening the scoring when a free-kick flew just over. But Gareth Simpson gave Mildenhall the lead when he curled in a superb shot from the edge of the area.

Northampton equalised six minutes later when Frost beat three defenders before smashing a shot from 25 yards against the post and Foster reacted quickly to knock in the rebound.

Four minutes later the game swung back in Mildenhall's favour when Paul Miles unleashed a 40-yard scorcher over the goalkeeper and in off the underside off the crossbar.

Mildenhall goalkeeper Ben Nower pulled off a fine save in the closing stages to ensure victory.

- Mildenhall's next match is at home against Diss Town in the league on Saturday (December 16).
