LITTLEPORT Judo Club members, Joshua Porter and Andrew Pickerill, returned from a championship in Thetford with a full set of gold, silver and bronze medals.

Competing in the Eastern Area Age Banded Judo Championships at Brekland Leisure Centre, Pickerill fought in the 55kg category for 12 and 13-year-olds. Pickerill lost his first match but showed great character to bounce back and win his next two contests and take the silver medal.

Pickerill then teamed up with three other players to enter the team event where he won all three contests with one hold down and three throws. Collectively the team won 10 of its 12 contests to run away with the gold medal.

Porter fought very well in the under 28kg category for eight and nine-year-olds and won all but one of his contests. A performance such as this would usually have ensured a silver medal but, with three players on equal wins, it came down to points and he ended up with the bronze.

Participation above local level is expensive. Littleport Judo Club appeals to local businesses and individuals for sponsorship. Contact the secretary, Ros Edwards, on 01553 840573, or write to Littleport Judo Club, 76 Back Lane, West Winch, King's Lynn, PE330LA.
