Jack Lines returned to Ely from the 2006 Cambridgeshire County Athletics Championships at the weekend with two medals.

The King's School Ely pupil, pictured, took silver in the under-15 200 metres with a personal best of 25.3 seconds, and then went one better in the 80m hurdles to take the championship gold in 12.7 seconds.

The event was staged at Cambridge University's track at the weekend, and 14-year-old Jack's double medal achievement was all the more remarkable as he finished a successful rugby season with King's, Shelford RFC and Cambridgeshire only the previous Sunday and had had little opportunity for serious athletics training.

He is now looking forward to representing the school and county in area and regional competitions over the summer before returning to the rugby field at under-15 level in the autumn.
