ELY Runner John Manlow, overcame testing conditions to score an impressive top 10 finish in the Harlow 10k last week.

Racing against more than 450 sprightly competitors, Manlow powered home in just 1hr 12scs, marginally outside the all important hour barrier but still enough to clinch eighth place overall and second place in the MV40 category.

Held over 10 kilometres of Essex countryside, the race featured an exigent mix of undulating peaks and troughs as well as an unnerving contrast between gravelly tracks and hard road.

Despite the exacting nature of the course however, Manlow managed to evenly pace his race, stepping on the gas with seven miles to go to ensure a strong finish.

Fellow Ely Runner Stephen Howard, meanwhile, came home in 20th place with a strong finishing time of 1h 2ms 49secs. The race was won by John Clarke in 54mins 25secs.
