Table Tennis Andrew Maguire’s five-set win over Christian Mohan was to be Ely II’s only point against their colleagues from Ely I as the two sets met in Division 1.

Christian reversed his fortune in another five-setter against Ashley Rowe, and his father Liam and brother Kieran completed their maximums. Maguire and Mick Runswick lost to Christian and Kieran in four legs in the doubles.

Neil Abram’s three wins held Ely IV’s challenge together as they visited Soham Comrades IV, eventually running out 6-4 winners.

Abram’s efforts enabled Ely to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead, Greg Ozog wading in with victories over Syd Rushton and Janet Nichols. Rushton beat Karen Byford to narrow the gap but Abram and Ozog took the doubles to seal the win.

Fulbourn 3 were led by Tom Lodziak into a 5-2 margin over Soham Comrades II, though both Kin Choi Chan and Rob Wallis took him to five.

Kin confounded Phil Hague with his mysterious extravagance to pull something back for Comrades then Bela Szabo completed a night to forget for Dave Roitman to give Comrades the chance of a draw but Lodziak and Hague prevailed in the doubles to see Fulbourn home 6-4.

In Division 3, Ellesmere III lost heavily to visitors Countess, Rhys Burton defeating Tim Atkinson in five for their only win. Nathan Johnson took two of the visitors to five sets, including a tremendous match and deuce-in-the-fifth game against Robin Gammon. Jack England also had a close five-setter against Atkinson but otherwise Countess were just too strong.

Despite Edward Garrett-Jones taking two of his opponents to five legs visitors two-man Soham Comrades VI suffered a whitewash at the hands of their hosts, Elsworth II.

Phil Emmerson featured in all three victories that Haddenham managed to achieve against Ely V, winning two of his singles and then the doubles with Jake Alsop against Simon Bickers and Pedro Rocha.

However, Bickers, Rocha and Simon Braschi cleared the remainder of the board fairly easily. Fulbourn 6 are enjoying their matches but, so far, not winning many.

Ali Hands provided a semblance of a threat to Soham Comrades V as she beat Chris Rule and lost to Lito Jumilla 12-10 in the fifth but generally Comrades always seemed confident of a good result – which they achieved 9-1.
