SOHAM'S forgettable run of form continued at the weekend as they went down 2-0 at Leighton Town.

The Greens were seldom at the races against an opportunistic Leighton side and in particular striker Dennis Fenemore, who took the opportunity to open his account for Leighton with a second half brace.

Boss Ian Benjamin, said: "There have been many occasions this season where I have a lot of good things to say about the strikers and how they have performed, but on this occasion I think they have just got to take this performance on the chin, because they didn't play well.

"We weren't helped by the loss of Kentoh Gray at half time through injury because I felt we lost some pace at the back, but to be honest I expected more from the strikers and they know that."

Though the first half was a largely even affair, opportunities were scarce for both sides as a combination of good keeping and good defending kept the attacking players on the periphery.

Soham were forced into making a change for the second-half as Gray, who was struggling with his hamstring, was replaced by Andy Coleman. The substitution proved key in the ensuing minutes as the loss of Gray who had been dealing with Fenemore comfortably, allowed the latter to break free and open the scoring on the hour mark.

Soham floundered in the aftermath of the goal and offered little going forward, eventually forcing Benjamin to freshen up his attack with the introduction of the youth team's Jordan Alexander for his senior debut, a move which Benjamin believed changed the game,

"When Jordan came on it freshened up the attack and we started to create some chances for the first time in the game, he did a good job."

Soham might have pulled level as the match entered its last quarter but Michael Simpson's sprightly leap and header was denied by the woodwork. Spurred on, Soham threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser but instead of getting back on terms they were caught out once more by Fenemore, who netted his second to seal the points.
