Kershaw Premier League

It was a stupendous week for Ely City Reserves as they clocked up their second and third wins of the season on Wednesday and Saturday, making it three wins out of three so far! First up was a midweek home game against last season’s all conquering League winners Fulbourn Institute, who they surprisingly beat by two goals to one. Jonathan Few claimed his first goal of the season and Adam Salmons scored for the second game running. Next was a Saturday home game against embryonic league leaders Whittlesford United, where red-hot Salmons notched again for his third goal in three games and young Lewis Chambers climbed off the bench to net twice on his league debut for the Robins. The former Pymoor marksman helped secure a three one victory and effortlessly made the transition from Division 2B to Senior A to help his new team surge to second place in the League.

Littleport Town recorded a fine midweek away draw against a Lakenheath side that are almost unbeatable at home. Luke Butcher was the lone ‘Port scorer as he kept up his goal a game record this season, and also picked up one of six yellow cards in this feisty affair in Suffolk. Town remain unbeaten this season and this result bodes well for what lies ahead.

Kershaw Senior A

Soham United’s dream start to the season continued, as they racked up six more points this week to go with the three they earned last week, to soar the to the top of the fledgling table in their first ever appearance in the Division. They squeezed out Cherry Hinton by a narrow three goals to two scoreline on Wednesday, with Liam Eley’s double paving the way to this away victory. Dan Symonds’ second in two games completed the scoring for a jubilant United. The celebrations continued on Saturday as they strode to another close win, this time by two goals to one at home to newly-relegated Needingworth United. Sam Cooper and Ben Howe were the goalscoring heroes for Soham in this match, who maintained their 100% record and sees them sitting very pretty on top of Senior A at the first time of asking.

Neighbours Soham Town Rangers Reserves are hot on their heels though as they also gained six points this week, to add to their one from last week. Wednesday’s home game saw them overcome Girton United by three goals to one with Stephen Bugg grabbing his first of the season in his first game. Regular goalscorer Thomas Christie was also on the mark for the Greens Reserves and new signing from Ely Crusaders, Luke Schunmann, made it three goals and three points to Rangers. Saturday saw them humiliate yo-yo local rivals Mildenhall Town Reserves by five goals to one at Julius Martin Lane with Mark Allen, Wayne Bell, Jake Fuller and Christie’s brace accounting for the scoring as this Soham team rocketed up to third place, putting them just behind their very close neighbours, United.

Fordham’s disastrous start to the season stuttered on, as they lost for the second successive week by five goals without reply at home to Sawston United on Wednesday night.

Kershaw Senior B

Ely City ‘A’s ignominious start to the season showed no sign of abating as they succumbed twice in the space of a week to West Row Gunners away and Fulbourn Institute Reserves at home. Gunners romped to a five goals to one victory on Wednesday with the only highlight for Ely City’s third string being a goal for Luke Fretwell. The misery continued at home on Saturday as City shipped a nap of goals again, this time to Fulbourn. They did, however, double their goal tally from Wednesday as Jamie Gayfer and Luke Hammett found the net for the rusty Robins, who now sit at the bottom of the League with no points from three games.
