FORDHAM fell from the top division after a season of woe that ended with three more defeats in a week when they needed three victories.

First up was West Wratting at home which ended in a 2-1 loss even though Dan Langley's spot kick had equalised Wratting's opener. A reverse at Over Sports by the same scoreline followed as Fordham started the match with only eight men following Thursday's fatal car crash on the A14 that had caused chaos in getting a full team to Over. Two goals came in this period for Sports before a full strength team rallied to make it 2-1 with Sam Asplen the scorer. This effectively relegated Fordham but the final nail was rammed in their coffin by title-chasing Fulbourn Institute who humiliated them 15-0 on Saturday.

Ely City Reserves' final two games mirrored their season as they beat Waterbeach 1-0 in midweek through Dean Salmons and then lost badly 4-0 on Saturday to the same opposition.

Littleport Town's season also ended with a defeat as they went down 1-0 at Over Sports as they ended a in a disappointing ninth position in the League.

Senior A

SOHAM Town Rangers Reserves ended with two losses this week, 3-2 two at Girton in midweek and 3-1 on Saturday to Somersham Town. Luke Hipwell accounted for both goals versus Girton and Will Seymore got the only goal against Town.

Senior B

SOHAM United were the toast of the region as they wrapped up promotion on Tuesday night with a resounding 4-0 victory at Great Chesterford.

Andy Parker's side took the lead through the Jason Parker who followed up a parried shot to put United on their way to victory. Lee Moll made it two at half-time and it was left to Liam Eley and Ben Fuller to add the extras to spark a night of celebration for the deserving Soham side.

They capped a fabulous week with another win on Saturday against West Row Gunners as Fuller claimed the first. Ben Howe doubled the lead as they went in 2-0 up at the interval. A glorious Chris Lam effort made it a comfortable win for the second-placed team, even though Gunners struck back twice. Parker and his troops now head off to Histon on Wednesday night to contest the Percy Oldham Memorial Cup against League winners Linton Granta as they look forward to a possible double success.

Ely City 'A' had a more low key finish to their League season as they drew 2-2 at home to Saffron Crocus in midweek and then beat Swavesey Institute 3-1. Luke Fretwell and Jamie Linney were the midweek scorers as Ely consolidated a mid-table position.

Division 1B

LITTLEPORT Town Reserves' horrendous end to the season continued with a 7-0 loss at Elsworth Sports that left Mark Talbot's charges languishing in eighth position after a good start to the season.

Division 2B

PYMOOR suffered the shock and anguish of relegation on the final day of the season as they lost 3-2 at Milton Reserves. This result meant that their opposition leapfrogged them and their other rivals also got the results they needed to leave Pymoor sailing out of the division. It all seemed so different in midweek as they clawed their way back from two goals down against Witchford '96 to earn what seemed a precious point. Lewis Chambers and John Harvey levelled up Michael Ward's brace for '96. Josh Ashman was sent off for Witchford as he lost his head at the referee that helped Pymoor back into the game. Chambers scored again against Milton and Steve Tuck also notched but Milton's three goals meant that it was all in vain.

Witchford followed up their midweek draw with a good performance against runaway league leaders Tuddenham Rovers but ultimately went down 3-1.

They equalised Rovers' early opener through Dale Hoey. Tuddenham's striker finished well at the end though, to take all three points as Witchford finished a creditable fifth.

The Vine finished in the highest position in their history as they claimed fourth spot following their 2-2 draw at Barton Mills. David Martin scored twice to cap a momentous season for The Vine.

Division 3B

IT was mixed fortunes for the teams in this section as Ely Crusaders narrowly missed out on going up a league, as they won 1-0 in midweek against Chatteris Town Reserves and then drew 5-5 at relegated Wisbech St Mary on the Saturday. Unfortunately, due to Earith United's three goal home demolition of Isleham United that put them up, Crusaders will only be able to finish third.

Fordham Reserves made sure of safety on Monday night against Little Downham Swifts as they battled back from going 1-0 down to a Dan Bell goal for Swifts. Johnny Blecher chipped in from 25-yards as Fordham played some good football to preserve their position in this section next season. They built on this to beat Isleham 3-1 as Blecher scored from close range early on. Jon Mitchell's fine run and shot made it 2-1 and Mauro Cabral made it 3-1 for Fordham.

In the other games in this section, Little Downham lost to Exning Athletic by three goals to Dan Bell's one as their season limped to a close and Stretham Hotspurs won 3-1 against Cottenham to finish eighth. Mepal Sports are right behind Hotspurs with one game to play as they drew 3-3 at to Hemingfords United 'A' after being three goals down in the second half. A virtuoso cameo performance from sub Scott Verdon saw him strike back twice and Darren Murfitt also scored to rescue a point for Sports.

Division 4B

SOHAM United Reserves had a great win at Cambridge Community Church on Wednesday as Ben Reed's tap-in made it 1-0 at half-time. Rob Aveston's pinpoint free kick doubled the lead for United before Church's consolation. They came unstuck against Tydd United on the Saturday as they went down 2-0.

Wicken Amateurs struggled to the last as they lost twice this week, the first being at Chatteris Town 'A' 6-2 and the second by 7-3 against section winners Fenstanton Reserves. Michael Makanza and Steven Kesseck notched for Amateurs at Chatteris.

Division 5C

MEPAL Sports Reserves ended their season on a high with two victories this week to finish in fifth position in the table. Wednesday night saw them travel to Little Downham Swifts Reserves and even though they went a goal and 2-1 down to two Mark Yardy efforts, they hit back with Mark Finbow scoring twice and Chris Axford's scrappy finish proving to be the winner. They followed this up with a fine 3-0 win at home to Willingham Wolves. Craig Finbow and Leon Collins scored before half-time and sub Russell Grief completed the scoring.

Sutton United Reserves avoided the ignominy of being the bottom club in the region as they jumped above Swavesey Institute Reserves by beating them 3-0. Daniel Twinn's two strikes put them on their way and Liam South also scored.
