Littleport Judo Club celebrated achievements and success throughout 2017 at its annual awards night.
The last 12 months have been a busy time for the club as it has grown its membership and moved into the new Littleport Leisure Centre along with hosting a number of successful judo contests and master classes.
From the club’s first class, for under eight-years-old, the Judoka of the Year award was presented to Lily Robinson.
Club coach Stuart Aldous said: “We have a fantastic group learning the fundamentals of judo in this class and it was very difficult to select one individual for this award.
“The coaches selected Lily to win the award for her positive attitude and respectful approach, always trying her best and being a helpful and happy judoka.”
There were two awards in the second class, for eight to 13 years.
Louie Harrison was presented with the ‘Most Improved Judoka’ award after impressing the clubs coaches with his progress and development in the last 12 months and Yonas Aldous was presented with the ‘Judoka of the Year’ award for his achievements throughout the year in his contest judo and his help coaching the new members.
In the third class for 14+ and senior judoka Matthew Slezacek took the ‘Most Improved Judoka’ for his dedication and commitment to his training over the year. Club coach Stuart Aldous was awarded the ‘Judoka of the Year’ award for all the work he had put in to running the beginners courses that took place and passing a two day judo theory exam to register his Dan grade with the British Judo Association.
The club also celebrated the award given to club secretary and coach Ros Edwards at the British Judo National Awards 2017 where she was a finalist in the ‘Event Volunteer of the Year’ section.
Ros was given the bronze award for all her work across the country for grass roots judo.
Head coach Ray Taylor said: “It was a great to see so many members on the mat for our awards night this year. “The club has grown in membership throughout 2017 and we are working hard to make 2018 a great year of judo for all our members, new and old.
“We have plenty of events coming up through the year and we have been active already delivering judo sessions to 85 students at Littleport Academy School throughout January. 2018 looks set to be an even better year for Littleport Judo Club!”
