Littleport’s 10k run attracted a bumper attendance of 263 runners who were representing 37 different running clubs.
The main event took off at Littleport Leisure after the successful children’s 1.5k fun run which was won by Oliver Taylor representing Ely Runners in a time of 5.50.
Jed Randall of Haverhill RC claimed second spot clocking 5.57, while Dana Fraser of Cambridge & Coleridge’s time of 6.09 earned her third place.
Clare Pendle, business manager at Littleport Leisure Centre, said: “We are delighted that runners from all over the country chose Littleport to come and join in our yearly running event which seems to grow from strength to strength every year.”
The running conditions weren’t ideal either having shrugged off the previous hot humid conditions.
The blustery wet weather set in for the day BUT didn’t deter many of the novice charity runners, including Cathy Gibb-de Swarte, who for a second year was running for the local charity Branching Out, and in the memory of Carol Coleby, who died 18 months ago, wife of seasoned runner Harry Coleby who has cancer.
Cathy, who is already planning to get a running team together for next year to raise money for MS, said: “It was really hard going when running up Padnal’s steep dirt track, but once on level ground on Ely Road, plus the encouragement of those gutsy rained drenched marshals gave us the lift we needed to keep going and finish the race,”
Just like last year’s 10k run, both winners of the men’s and women’s saw Denys Olefir of St Edumnds Pacers and Lisa Marriott of Ramsey Road Runners retain their titles winning in a time of 32.57 and 40.37 respectively.
Lincoln Wellington’s William Strangeway claimed 2nd spot in a time of 33.26, while BRJ Run & Tri Club’s David Hudson finished 3rd clocking 33.38.
Lisa Marriott who won this her third consecutive women’s Littleport 10k title had blasted the field which saw her nearest challenger Brenda Egan claim runners-up spot in a time of 44.31, while Ely Runners’ Lucy Steven finished 3rd clocking 44.52.
