THE Robins are in scintillating form, having scored 11 unanswered goals in two games.

Many teams regard Stowmarket a tough place to go, but, despite missing two key players, captain Andy Chatters and creative midfielder Simon Warren, a sensational second-half from Ely ensured it was easy work.

The first half was an even physical battle, played at a frantic pace.

Nick Impey gave Ely the lead in the 44th minute when a he played a neat one-two with Tom Beech on the edge of the penalty area and then beat the goalkeeper to the ball to finish. Yet, Impey picked up a knee injury in the challenge and had to be withdrawn, five minutes into the second half.

His replacement Martin Westcott made a huge impact; firstly doubling Ely's lead after five minutes by heading home from close range after Beech crashed a header off the crossbar, following Mark Johnson's free kick. Then, in the 65th minute, Westcott smartly beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper to make it 3-0.

From then on in it was one way traffic and the hosts could not muster any threat. The fourth goal came with a slice of luck when Johnson cut in from the left and hit a shot from the edge of the area that took a fortuitous bounce over the goalkeeper.

Substitute Dave Smith sealed the win five minutes from time when, after Thurlbourne's corner, Westcott flicked on for him to head in from four yards out.

Ely boss Dennis Lightning said: "I'm very pleased with the performance, but with the squad that we've got we should be playing like that every single week. We can't afford to relax, we've got a tough away game on Saturday and we have to maintain our consistency."

- Robbie Mason and Dean Blackman are both suspended for Ely's trip to Thetford on Saturday(December 16), whilst Impey is a doubt.
