A DAZZLING hat-trick from striker Charles Libam put an end to Soham's miserable losing run as they sailed to a 4-2 win over Malvern Town.

Seemingly invigorated by the words of boss Ian Benjamin in the aftermath of last weeks' dismal performance, Libam came back firing and steered his side to a comfortable win against bottom-side, Malvern.

Scott Carter completed the scoring for the home side who played with a cohesion and simplicity that has been lacking in recent performances. The win sees the Greens move onto 42 points and into 14th place with just a handful of games remaining.

After a tight opening period which saw both teams vying hard for control, Soham began to take a grip on the game and forged some decent openings with Carter in particular wasting a good chance after 15 minutes.

The breakthrough finally came after 35 minutes when Libam latched onto a precision through ball from Adam Weston to fire home. The Greens doubled their advantage not ten minutes later when a half-cleared ball found its way to Carter who poked home from close range.

Malvern played with renewed attacking intent at the start of the second half and soon found a way back into the tie as Craig Mulins deflected effort squeezed home. Soham were keen not to allow the visitors to capitalise on their momentum however, and a quick-fire brace from Libam all but sealed the tie.

To their credit, Malvern ploughed ahead in search of a way back into the game and they were finally rewarded with some 15 minutes to go as Adam Snook slotted home.

Soham were once again unfazed by the setback however, and could have added yet more goals to their total in the latter stages of the game as substitute Andy Furnell spurned a couple of chances.
