Soham Town Rangers joint-boss Robbie Nightingale is challenging his men to match their away form at Julius Martin Lane after they experienced success on the road twice in four days this week.

The Greens followed a hard-fought 2-1 triumph at Thamesmead Town on Saturday with a 2-0 victory at Wroxham last night, and Nightingale believes his side can continue their rise up Ryman North table if they can match their solid away form at home, where they have managed just three wins this term.

“Last season we prided ourselves on our home form and made it a real fortress,” he said.

“But this season teams have been coming here and playing more freely which isn’t helping us.

“We need to play more on the front foot at home, starting on Saturday.

“We’ve got two good away wins this week but through very different performances.

“We had to dig deep on Saturday as we didn’t play particularly well, but on Tuesday the scoreline didn’t reflect our dominance.

“I could be sat here having won six or seven-nil.”

Nightingale was also full of praise for midfield maestro Ryan Sharman, who took his goal tally to 14 by hitting the net twice on Tuesday.

“Ryan is a very good player,” he said.

“He’s got very good technique and he uses the ball very well.

“He’s got the quality in the area to pick his spot and that’s certainly what he did with his goals.”

Despite sitting in 16th place, Soham are now just nine points behind fourth spot, and Nightingale is hoping his men can extend their winning run and surge into the top six – starting with victory over VCD Athletic on Saturday (3pm).

He said: “We’re in a position where the league is still pretty open and we have a run of games from now until Christmas where if we can put a run together we can push towards the top six.

“We’ve lost two of our last 10 so our form is that of a top six side.

“If we can continue that form into February and March it will give us a much better idea of what we’ll be looking at towards the end of the season.”
