DOZENS of entries have been collected for this year’s Ely Standard Sports Awards but there is still time for you to get your last-minute entries in!

Worthy nominees from across the sporting spectrum have been put forward representing everything from football and rugby, to running and cricket.

The deadline for this year’s awards, sponsored by Sainsbury’s Ely, is May 13 so be sure to use these last few days to put forward anyone you think has had a bumper year, gone that extra mile or simply deserves recognition for the hard work they do behind the scenes.

The Ely Standard can also announce this week that Heart radio’s breakfast presenter Kev Lawrence will be hosting this year’s event.

Among our entries this year we have Ely City Football Club boss Alan Alsop, Ely Runners athletes Heidi Uff, Ashley Pettit and Craig Holgate, boxer Alfie Smith, Soham Town Rangers Under 18s manager Chris Gibson and Olympic torch bearer Norman South, with many more also receiving nominations.

The awards evening is being held on May 24 at Ely Rugby Club, on Downham Road, and is also kindly being supported by Ivor Searle, the Witchford School Sports Partnership, and East Cambs District Council.

Sports editor Daniel Mansfield said: “We would love to receive nominations too from greenkeepers, the mums who wash the dirty kits and all those hard-working individuals who turn out in all weathers to ensure people can compete.”
