A LACK of runs for the City of Ely 1st XI saw them slip to a seven wicket defeat at the hands of an impressive March Town side.

Opting to bat first, Ely got off to a strong start with Bruce King (36) and Andrew Foster (10) providing a reasonable platform for the team to build on. With the two openers dismissed though, the middle order failed to fire and save for a knock of 21 from Johnny Wallace the team slumped to 133 all out.

Teams from March are renowned for their strength in batting and, aside from an early wobble, the home side were able to knock of their total in a little over 33 overs. Sam Buck was the stand-out performer for Ely with the ball as he collected 1-23.
