THE City of Ely 2nd XI failed to make the most of a scintillating bowling display as they lost out by four runs to Burwell.
Asked to bowl first, Ely immediately made their hosts pay with a thunderous display of aggressive bowling. M Higginson led the way for Ely as he notched up 4-34 to make sure Burwell were dismissed for just 100.
Oliver Swan-Taylor also contributed well with a measured three over spell that saw him collect 2-7.
It was with the bat that Ely began to falter though, and, aside from a decent-enough knock of 22 from S Gautam, they gave away wickets all too cheaply. Some fine bowling from N Murry (4-14) and T Jordan (4-19) ensured Ely were dismissed for just 96.
