VIKINGS 1 stormed to the top of CKA Division 2 with a commanding 20-2 victory over Cambridge City.
City, who had been tied on points with Vikings coming into the game, looked to take the game to Ely early but a combination of stout defending and attacking prowess ultimately told as the home side streaked away to an unassailable lead.
Ely stormed into an 8-0 lead in the first-half thanks largely to the efforts of Loes Versteegh who consistently netted at key junctures to ensure the home side remained on top.
Despite their already dominant lead, Ely kicked on in the second-half and added a further 12 goals with England U16 starlet Olly Watts weighing in with five goals to go with Versteegh's eight.
The remainder of the goals were spread across the team to cap a strong performance from the Vikings which sees them well placed to push for promotion in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Vikings 3 picked up a victory against City 5 in a low scoring but exciting match. Coming from 1-0 down at half time, two goals from Jamie Cranwell and one from John Murphy saw Vikings seal a 3-2 victory.
