A SOLID performance saw the Vikings to a comfortable win.

Laura Matthews and captain Rob Wootton fired the Littleport club into a 2-1 lead at the break. Both players scored a goal each in the second half to add to efforts from Martin Brown and Sam Duffield.

Wootton said: "For the most part we were in control of the game but our play wasn't as fluent as it can be, so it was good to secure a win without playing particularly well."

Vikings junior team hosted a competition at City of Ely College, on Saturday, where they played six 15-minute games against a Norwich under-13 team.

The Vikings, preparing for the national championships, lost 10-9 by a golden goal after the majority of the games ended as draws.

Melissa Hall was the Vikings player of the day and Jamie Smith scored five of their nine goals.

The junior coach said: "I'm extremely proud of our players. Their performance showed a lot of potential and it's a very exciting time for our young squad.
