THE VIKINGS experienced their first taste of competitive korfball last Thursday.

Captain Martin Brown scored a with a superb long shot for the Vikings, but they trailed 7-1 at half-time.

Sam Duffield scored for the visitors with an effortless long shot, early in the second half, but Phoenix got on top of the fast-paced game and took advantage of the Vikings' inexperience.

Vikings' third goal came when Nick Kydnt won a free pass and Laura Matthews converted.

Excellent debuts came from Kydnt, Hannah Brown and Ryan Middleton and although Vikings never threatened to win the game, they never gave up. Tom Evans was the Vikings' player-of-the-match.

n The Vikings' next match is at home to Cambridge City IV.

Vikings Korfball Club train every Monday, 6-9pm at Ely City College. If you would like to learn more about the Vikings or korfball, contact Laura Matthews at slomo888@hotmail.com or 01353 648568.
