King’s Ely equestrian team had a number of successes at the recently held Show Jumping County Qualifier, held at the College of West Anglia in Milton.
In order to qualify for the championships, held at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre in April, a team or individual have to win their class.
And for King’s Ely, this happened in the form of Katie Cameron, as an individual in the 90cms class on her established partner Dundee Spirit.
The team secured a second place, missing out on qualification by fractions of a second.
The riders were Katie Cameron, Rachael Attwood, Freia Gould and Phoebe Plumb. Thea Holdaway was riding as an individual and produced a clear round in her first ever competition at this height, complimenting the four clears from the team.
Disappointment on missing out so closely on qualification was short lived, as the same team from the 90cms, won the one metre class and will be on their way to Bury Farm in April. Rachael Attwood also secured an individual fifth place having produced a great clear round.
There were also other achievements of note on the day.
Ryan Shaw was competing for the first time for King’s Ely and produced a great clear round in the 70cms, and was a key player in the 80cms team of Katie Cameron and Thea Holdaway, who were a respectable fourth. Katie secured an individual second place, again just missing out on a qualification.
