Junior rower Seren Palmer from Isle of Ely Rowing Club represented the Eastern region of England at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta on Saturday.
Seren won her first round race in the WJ14 (14 and under) single sculls, qualifying 3rd fastest from the two heats.
She then came second in an exciting final to take the silver medal with East Midlands taking gold and Northern taking Bronze.
The regatta was held at the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham, with uncharacteristically brilliant weather.
Teams from 12 different regions competed, bringing a high standard of rowing, great competitive attitude, and a fabulous atmosphere.
Clearly not yet tired out, Seren then raced at Leicester regatta on Sunday where she came away with first place in WJ14 single sculls.
The results are a fantastic achievement for Seren and also Seren’s coach Victor Bridges, who was on hand to support her throughout the weekend. Victor’s outstanding contribution to coaching was recognised at British Rowing’s 2017 Volunteer and ‘Coach of the Year’ Awards with a special long service award.
Club Captain Duncan McCulloch says he hope Seren’s outstanding performance will inspire other club rowers this season.
