JUNIOR FOOTBALL

DIVISION 4B

BURWELL Swifts made a decisive move in the 4B championship race, beating Hemingford United A 7-2 to replace their rivals at the top of the table.

Carl Saxby helped himself to a hat-trick, and other goals went to Jake Drake (2), Alan Nash and Glenn Carman.

PREMIER DIVISION

ELY City Reserves recovered from a goal down to keep their title hopes alive with a convincing win at Cottenham United.

David Cornwell (2), Andrew Lee and Stephen Tuck put the visitors 4-1 up before half-time, and Cornwell went on to complete his hat-trick as Ely eventually ran out winners by a 6-2 margin.

SENIOR DIVISION A

SOHAM Town Rangers Reserves saw their last remaining promotion hopes extinguished by Fulbourn Institute's 2-1 midweek win at Mildenhall Town Reserves, and then drew 2-2 with bottom club Linton Granta on Saturday.

SENIOR DIVISION B

SOHAM United beat bottom club Willingham 4-1 away in midweek with goals from Chris Lam (3) and Jason Parker, but crashed 5-0 at lowly Swavesey Institute on Saturday - a result which left manager Andy Parker very disappointed.

LITTLEPORT Town are still in trouble despite a 6-0 home win against Willingham, and Haddenham Rovers lost 3-1 at home to promotion-chasing Castle Camps, with leading marksman Kenny Holmes accounting for their lone goal.

DIVISION 1B

ELY City A won 11-0 at Great Paxton Reserves, but still look likely to miss out on the second automatic promotion spot in this section.

DIVISION 2B

LONG-time leaders Sutton United dropped out of the first two after going down 4-1 at Over Sports Reserves, but Stretham Hotspurs scored four times without reply in their match at Milton Reserves.

Central defender Adam Halesden scored the only goal of the first half in his first game back since January, and Gary Careless made it 2-0 with a 15-yard header following a great move.

Ryan Bate added number three for Stretham, and Careless made it four with another long-range effort 10 minutes from time.

An entertaining affair saw THE VINE share the spoils with bottom-of-the-table Lode.

Jon Cutter's 25-yard opener was cancelled out before half-time, and Justin Challis's second half effort was likewise eradicated before Ben Hutton's fantastic goal-line clearance preserved a point for the hosts.

WITCHFORD '96 were due to entertain Pymoor FC, but the visitors failed to arrive.

DIVISION 3B

MEPAL Sports took four points from two matches to keep themselves on the fringes of the promotion hunt.

Matt Johannesen's goal earned them a 1-1 midweek draw at Wisbech St Mary A, and he was then on target again in the 7-0 home demolition of the same opponents.

Giles Peacock led the way with a hat-trick in that game, and he was joined on the scoresheet by Chris Silvain (2), Guy Habbin and Johannesen.

SOHAM United Reserves are out of the bottom two after thrashing their Haddenham Rovers counterparts 8-1.

Benjamin Hill was the consolation scorer for Rovers, whilst at the other end Ally Mohammed and Aaron Lee both contributed hat-tricks to Soham's cause.

LITTLE Downham Swifts travelled to leaders March Rangers, and were drawing 2-2 in the 65th minute when the game had to be abandoned because one of the home players abused the referee.

Gareth Draper had opened the scoring for Swifts, and he then set up a goal for Aaron Hodson as the visitors led 2-1 at one stage.

FORDHAM Reserves could find themselves in relegation trouble meanwhile, after losing 3-0 at Newmarket Town A.

DIVISION 5B

LITTLE Downham Swifts Reserves striker Nicky Martin scored three and set up the same number as his side crushed Upwell Athletic 7-0.

Paul Bone grabbed a brace for Downham, and there were goals too for Jules Peachey and Ian Jenkins.

Rob Golding and captain Steven Martin made good use of the ball in midfield, whilst at the back Richard Scott and Jenkins were in fine form.

BURWELL Swifts Reserves lost 7-2 at home to Earith United despite two goals from Tom Thatcher.

SUNDAY FOOTBALL

ELY Park Rangers Reserves won 1-0 at Cambridge Cosmos in Division 1A, but in doing so produced perhaps their worst performance of the season.

The only goal of the game came in the second half when Steve Pollard ran through from defence and squared for Richie Murfitt to score.

The first team lost 3-2 at Ashwell, and in doing so ended the faint title hopes of Triple-S, who beat Bar Hill 6-3.

WICKEN Maids Head won by the odd goal in seven at Bar Hill A in Division 4A, whilst in the same section Little Downham United lost 3-1 at Cambridge Cosmos Reserves.

In Division 3A Wilburton Albion slumped 3-2 at Girton Eagles Reserves, and Fox Burwell crashed 6-1 at Quayside.
