LITTLEPORT judo club players, Nicholas Johnson and Andrew Pickerill are to are to compete in the National Junior Championships in Sheffield this weekend.

The pair earned the right to compete with the best juniors in the UK when they were recently crowned eastern area age banded judo champions at Thetford.

Johnson, in the under-50kg category in the eight to 11 age group, scored maximum ippon right the way through to the final, where he changed his tactics, and won the gold medal by holding his opponent down for 25 seconds.

Pickerill fought in the under-73kg category in the 12 to 15 age group. He won all his contests with the maximum score of ippon, throwing his first opponent with an inner-thigh-throw. Pickerill faced his final opponent and picked up early scores with minor throws before finishing with a throw followed by a hold down to take the gold.
