Joint managers Adam Horrex and David Low are relishing the challenge of leading Fordham in Kershaw NMC 1B.

The pair have taken over from Wayne Lockwood, who joined Soham Town Rangers Reserves after overseeing Fordham’s promotion from NMC 2B.

Fordham have lost some key players, including last season’s top-scorer Alex Theobald to Ely City, but Horrex believes they have recruited well and are well-equipped to hold their own at a higher level.

Horrex said: “I think as a group we are well equipped to make the step up. I think as we have only stepped up one league we will be more than able to compete.

“I think when you come up you have a momentum but with the manager leaving and me and David Low coming in, new faces coming in and key players moving on it’s almost starting again.

“But we’re looking forward to it and the players are keen to get started.

“Losing Alex (Theobald) is a blow as he scored the majority of goals last season. But he deserves his chance at a higher level. It means that everyone else must start chipping in with a few more goals from all over the pitch.

“Coming into the squad are Danny Stackhouse, Richard Kent and Stuart King all joining from local rivals Isleham United. Robbie Scrivener has joined from Burwell Swifts and Mitchell Booth has joined the squad.

“I think we have recruited well and have brought experience and know how into the squad. Robbie won this league last season with Burwell so he knows it inside out.”

The aim this season, Horrex says, is to “consolidate” their place in NMC 1B.

Horrex said: “We have been asked to consolidate in NMC 1B this season. But myself and David would like to be competing at the right end of the table come the end of the season.

“As we have told the players, we will take each game as it comes and target three points every week. All we can do is play the way we all know we can and see where it takes us.

“I think once the new signings start to gel we have a good strong squad on our hands.

“Since we have been here it’s clear they want to play football on the floor and the quality already within the squad from last season makes for a positive season ahead.”

First up for Fordham is an away game at Huntingdon United tomorrow.

Horrex said: “I think Huntigdon will be a tough first game. It is away and you tend to get a strong physical game there. With that in mind we must stand up to that test.

“I think every game this season will test the players. It’s just how they respond to each test.”
