SOHAM starlet James Black played superbly to wrap up second place in a European junior golf championships held recently.
The talented seven-year-old shot an astonishing score of four under par over three rounds to take the runners-up spot, second only to American world number one Allan Kournikova, relative of the famous Russian tennis player.
James, a pupil at the Weatheralls School, started the three-round event with a respectable one over par score of 37 but followed that up with a course-record round of 30 to storm into second spot.
In his last round, James shot 37 once more to wrap up second place by a single shot over Mexican Alejandro Fierro.
The event, the US Kids Golf European Championships, was held at Longniddry in Scotland and brought together almost 40 of the world’s top seven-year-old players.
Taking second spot ensured that James, who plays at the City f Ely Golf Club, can now go forward to play at the Kids Golf World Championships taking place at Pinehurst in North Carolina later this year.
