Sutton trailed 1-0 at the break, but then took control and Newman's spectacular chip, which made it 5-3, was the icing on the cake.
Littleport Town Reserves also progressed with a 4-0 victory against local rivals Little Downham Swifts.
Goals from Mark Talbot and Nathan Bennett preceded a spectacular 25-yard effort from player-manager Neil Cullum.
But Luke Butcher surpassed his manager's brilliance with a goal that was even more outstanding to wrap things up.
Stretham Hotspurs continued their poor run, however, with a 4-1 defeat at Whittlesford United Reserves.
