MILDENHALL extended their unbeaten league run to 13 games with a comprehensive 2-0 derby win over Newmarket Town on bank holiday Monday.

First-half goals from Wayne Goddard and Chris Bacon ensured the victory for Hall, in a match they dominated to such an extent that goalkeeper Ben Nower was rarely troubled.

Hall opened their account after 10 minutes with a penalty. Owen Paynter was brought down in the area and Goddard converted.

Goddard turned provider for the second goal on the half-hour, crossing for Chris Bacon to head home.

Paynter had a couple more chances in the second half, but was unable to add to Hall's tally.

"We never got out of second gear," said Hall assistant manager Ricky Cornish.

"We did the damage in the first half, scoring the two goals, and it was a very professional performance in the second half.

" I think we can take 10 points from our last four games.

"With Wisbech losing, I think we can finish fourth, which would be a good end to the season."

Hall travel to Lowestoft tonight (Thursday) before visiting Harwich and Parkeston on Saturday.

# Soham followed up their Cambs Invitation Cup success with a 1-0 victory over Wisbech Town at Julius Martin Lane on Monday.

Andy Furnell's effort on the stroke of half-time, as he latched on to a Steve Bugg cross to clinically side-foot home, proved the difference between the two sides in Soham's last home game of the season.

Bugg had earlier spurned a good opportunity to put the home side ahead, but Furnell made amends a minute before the break.

Greens boss Ian Benjamin, a former manager of the Fenmen, said: "It's been a good week for us, with the cup win, and now coming into this match and getting the win against local rivals.

"At the end of the day it's still the same three points, though.

"I thought the key to the result was the performance of the back five.

"Dean Greygoose was excellent in goal, and the back four were the same in front of him.

"Wisbech are a very quick attacking unit and that is why I was so pleased with the way we dealt with them.

"We kept a clean sheet, and that is no mean feat from our lads."

Soham have three away games in their run-in.

They visit Lowestoft on Saturday, travel to Wroxham on Tuesday, and are away to Ipswich Wanderers on April 29.
