THIRTEEN helms rigged their boats for the annual Boxing Day races at Ely Sailing Club, and were greeted with sun and a gentle south westerly breeze.

In between races, mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas cake was served in the clubhouse.
The many spectators saw Alex Tory take early leads in both races to take honours twice, although Bob Hallett in his Laser did head Alex for a while in the second race.
Gary Ungless in his solo was consistently second.
The Christan family competed in Toppers and Eric just beat his son Vincent by two seconds in the first race, with Eric gaining six places on corrected time to be placed third.
Vincent convincingly won the family section to finish nearly a minute ahead of his father in the second race to grab fifth place on corrected time.
Commodore Alan White presented the Boxing Day trophy to Alex Tory who won it for the fifth consecutive year.
The runners-up trophy was presented to Gary Ungless, and Martin Mills was presented with a prize for being the youngest competitor.
Graham Tory had a prize for the best decorated boat.
Overall results. 1st Alex Tory (Solo) 2 points. 2nd Gary Ungless (Solo) 4 points, 3rd Niall Pearcey (Solo) 7 points, 4th Vincent Christan (Topper) 9 points. 5th Eric Christan (Topper) and Alan White (Solo) 10 points.
