SPORTING fixtures across the district fell foul of the weather at the weekend as widespread frost and ice made pitches unplayable.

The persistent cold snap that has seen temperatures plummet below freezing inevitably took its toll on playing surfaces across a range of sports, with fixtures having to be hastily re-arranged.

Alan Alsop’s Ely City were hoping to follow up their 6-2 demolition of Histon Reserves with victory at Essex-based Wivenhoe Town on Saturday. An early morning pitch inspection determined otherwise however, and the Robins will now hope the weather improves ahead of the re-arranged fixture on Wednesday.

Soham Town Rangers meanwhile, were in search of their first league win in four at mid-table North Greenford United but they too fell foul of the weather as the freezing conditions rendered the pitch unplayable.
