DIVISION 2B

PYMOOR FC and Stretham Hotspurs served up an all-action 15-goal extravaganza on Saturday, with the visitors staving off a late Pymoor come-back to take the points.

The hosts led 2-0 early on thanks to a Robert Parker double, but Stretham pulled one back with a 30-yard lob from Leigh Iball and then raced into a 5-2 interval lead with goals from Gary Careless, John Lewis, Ben Page and Iball again.

Careless added number six for Hotspurs after the break, and Iball completed his hat-trick to make it 7-2 after Calum Havis had been red-carded for Pymoor.

It looked game-over for the hosts at that stage, but Parker scored twice more to take his personal tally to four, and Ed Hale was also on target before Richard Brennan - a former Hotspurs player - reduced the deficit to 7-6 from the penalty spot.

Stretham captain Lewis settled his side's nerves with a spot-kick at the other end however, and Carless grabbed his third goal of the afternoon to complete an incredible 9-6 victory.

Witchford '96 also had to survive a comeback before securing all three points at Needingworth United Reserves.

Goals from Aaron Spencer and Ollie Swan-Taylor were wiped out before half-time, but Richard Martin's clumsy delivery floated over the goalkeeper and into the net for Witchford's 3-2 winner.

THE Vine suffered their fourth consecutive defeat by the same scoreline at home to Isleham United despite leading twice through Jon Cutter and substitute Jamie Smith, but leaders Sutton United won 5-1 at Godmanchester Rovers Reserves.

Matthew Keys and Melvyn Cornwell both scored twice, but goalkeeper Michael Peacock had the final word with a free-kick from his own half that Sam Oliver missed - and so did the Godmanchester defence.

ELY City Reserves remain on the fringe of the championship race after beating defensively-minded Needingworth United.

Dave Cornwell showed good skill before dispatching a half-volley into the bottom corner for Ely's second-half opener, and David Harvey's deflected effort made the final score 2-0.

FORDHAM meanwhile were undone by a Sam James own goal in their match at Great Paxton.

James - returning from a five-week lay-off - fired an early attempt just wide, but was then the unwitting culprit in defence as the ball cannoned off him and into the net.

Fordham had plenty of chances to get back on terms, but Paxton hit the woodwork twice themselves and held on for a 1-0 win.

SENIOR DIVISION A

SOHAM Town Rangers Reserves returned to winning ways at the expense of struggling Hardwick, but may have left it too late to resurrect their promotion challenge.

Adam Clemence converted Ross Knappett's through ball for Saturday's opener, and Scott Fretwell made it 2-0 before the interval and that was how it finished.

SENIOR DIVISION B

HADDENHAM Rovers are all but mathematically safe from relegation after goals from Philip Harle, Kenny Holmes, John Lee and Tom Moden gave them a 4-2 victory at Grampian.

SOHAM United meanwhile led twice at Bluntisham Rangers through Chris Lam and substitute Jason Brown, but eventually had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

LITTLEPORT Town Reserves went down by the only goal of the game at home to leaders Cherry Hinton.

DIVISION 1B

ELY City A stay second in the table after beating Bottisham Sports 3-1 with goals from Tom Hoppitt (2) and Stuart Seekings.

DIVISION 3B

SOHAM United Reserves eased their relegation worries by coming from a goal down to beat local rivals Ely Crusaders.

Jason Parker's penalty levelled matters at the break, and in a one-sided second period Ally Mohammed's brace made it 3-1 and Aaron Lee made the points safe with a fourth goal in the closing stages.

MEPAL Sports maintained their pursuit of the leading teams by beating St Ives Town A 3-1 with goals from Luke Wilson (2) and Darren Murfitt, and Little Downham Swifts did them a favour by holding leaders March Rangers to a goalless draw.

Clive Boucheron's goal was scant consolation for the efforts of Fordham Reserves in a 5-1 home reverse at the hands of Bluntisham Rangers Reserves.
