JUST five places are left for the new Ely Standard six-a-side football league which kicks off next month.

The league is being launched by Everton midfielder Lee Carsley, and he will be presenting trophies at the end of the season.

There will be three divisions of eight teams and grading games are to be played in the second week of October to determine which division the teams will play in.

A promotion and relegation system will be in place and teams will also have the opportunity to play against sides from across the country in the Soccersixes national cup.

Matches will be played on Sunday evenings from 5-8pm on Ely Hockey Club's AstroTurf pitch.

Teams will play a 30-minute match every week with a qualified referee. Anyone over the age of 16 can enter and you do not need to be an established club.

Teams will also receive a free strip to play in thanks to a deal struck between organisers Soccersixes and Nike.

There is no registration fee and the cost is just £2.50 per player every week.

Soccersixes' league manager John Greening said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to manage this new league, which promises to be very exciting with so many teams already signed up.

"I am overwhelmed and happy that the league is set to be the biggest in the area."

Results and league tables will be printed in the Ely Standard.
