Two Ely City sides fought off the cold to record gritty victories last weekend.

The club’s ladies impressed in their victory over Cambridge City 4ths, with goals from Hannah Brown, Jo Rayner and Becca Sharpe guiding them to a 3-1 victory.

The men’s firsts also netted three goals, but they were made to work for their win over St Neots firsts. A Tim Reynolds double and a Richard Scargill goal gave them a 3-2 lead but the points were secured by Neil Dodworth, who saved a penalty corner in the final minute.

The men’s 2nds were brought back to earth with a bump following their win last week; they lost 3-1 to Cambridge Nomads 3rds.

The men’s 3rds shared the points with St Ives 2nds following a 2-2 draw. Rich Gogin and junior star Ben Reynolds netted for Ely, with Reynolds’ strike his senior goal for the club.
