With the first team out of action, Ely Tigers’ development XV were looking to showcase their skills in the Eastern Counties Division Two West.
They met with high-flying Haverhill & District on Saturday, but the Suffolk side had too much quality for the local lads, who went down to a 70-20 defeat in an enthralling encounter.
Defeat for the development side leaves them in sitting second from bottom in the league standings having one just won game all season.
They will hope to climb the table in the coming weeks, but face a three-week wait until they welcome league leaders, Cottenham Renegades.
Ely’s first team return to action this weekend in the London Leagues with a trip to Basildon.
