Ely Crusaders 2 Soham 3

THE old football saying that 'goals win games' was an appropriate one here as a host of early misses came back to haunt Crusaders and caused them to surrender their unbeaten record.

After a promising start Ely fell behind and despite an excellent solo run and goal by Lewis Hook, they trailed 2-1 at half-time with Joseph Bell and George Newman on the scoresheet for Soham. Sam Scarborough equalised for Ely, but this was soon cancelled out by a goal from Soham's man-of-the-match Max Palmer.

Despite some good passing play during the final quarter of the match, Ely failed to breach the Soham defence.

Crusaders: Barrett, Brown, Butler, Felton, Frodsham, Funnell, Hook, Jeckells, Leech, Marston, Scarborough, Spittles.

Newmarket Town 2 Haddenham Rovers Colts 4

EXCELLENT team-work earned Haddenham victory in a hard fought match against a spirited team.

Matthew Wright's fourth goal of the season gave Haddenham the lead, but Newmarket levelled just before the break with James Turner's neat finish. Rovers took control in the second period, Matthew Beary waltzed through the home side's defence to make it 2-1 and the impressive Ricky Sawyer put through the lively Beary again to finish coolly and put the visitors 3-1 ahead.

Newmarket pulled a goal back through Pierrick Hausler but Joshua Lowe secured a deserved win with a goal three minutes from time.

Haddenham's man of the match: Ricky Sawyer.

Ely continued to press in the second half and were 4-0 up when Bailey's long throw picked out Brown who struck a fine shot to complete his hat-trick. Ely Crusaders 2 Chatteris Town 0

THIS was a superb flowing game played by two evenly matched teams.

It was end-to-end stuff from the start with Ely prevented by the excellent Chatteris goalkeeper, while the Crusaders' defenders were made to work hard at the other end.

The deadlock was broken just before half-time when Ely's Scott Callaghan volleyed a high cross into the bottom corner of the net.

Ely's second goal came after a spell of fine pass-and-move football finished with Tom Matcham looping the ball over the goalkeeper.

Ely: Oscar Haines, Ryan Marston, Tom Matcham, Harry Beeton, Tyler Thurston, Scott Callaghan, Thomas Walker, Tom Biscoe, James Callow, Jake Day, Sam Dix, Alex Germeney, Luke Hall, Lewis Jones, Rowan Shergold.

Chatteris Town 3 Haddenham Rovers Colts B 3

THIS truly was a game of two halves.

Haddenham started with the same determination that saw them take their first win of the season last week, but strong wind made it difficult for both teams.

Rovers broke the deadlock, mid-way through the half when a beautifully struck corner kick from Daniel Piggott curled straight in.

Robert Nangle made it 2-0 with a superb strike, minutes before half-time.

A cool finish from Nangle made it three, early in the second half, but Haddenham then had to deal with a strong head-wind and a determined Chatteris fight-back, and the scores were level before the final whistle.

Haddenham man of the match: Hannah Dewey.

WITCHFORD manager Gary Dewey described this as "the best team performance of the season".

Emily Mynott's long-range effort gave Witchford the lead after 10 minutes and a fine curling shot from Terri Martin made it 2-0 mid-way through the first half.

After further Witchford pressure, a solo-effort from Meg Jones, put them 3-0 up.

But Leanne Jeffrey quickly restored Witchford's three-goal advantage before further goals from Chelsea Morley and Martin.
