ELY slipped to their first defeat of the season at the hands of St Neots on Saturday.
St Neots 3
Ely City 1
Amid blistering overhead conditions, Ely were sluggish from the outset allowing St Neots to steal into the lead early on. Ely were not to be overawed however, and they regained their composure, clawing back to level pegging as a result of a fantastic goal from Chanr Bond.
The second half saw attacking breaks from both sides, with the game fairly even as defences dominated. However, in a fleeting lapse of concentration, Ely gave away a penalty flick, which, despite her best efforts, Kat Bamber could not deflect away from the goal.
St Neots quickly followed this with another goal to seal the game, Ely’s first loss of the season. Kat Bamber was awarded man of the match for her grit and determination in goal.
