SOHAM moved off the bottom of the league after picking up a vital win at Burnham on Tuesday.

Two goals in 20 minutes from Tom Benjamin set the tone for the Greens, who held firm to record their first league win since November.

The win propels Ian Benjamin’s side above AFC Hayes and up into 21st place in the Zameretto Division One Central league, bringing an end to a miserable run of eight consecutive defeats.

Benjamin opened the scoring for the Greens after eight minutes as he latched onto a Deakan Napier cross and the frontman was on hand again after 20 minutes to double the lead.

Wideman Napier, who formed an attacking trio for Soham, missed a penalty midway through the half before firing the Greens into a 3-0 lead before half-time.

Soham continued to dictate play after half-time and added a fourth with 20 minutes to go as Luke Hipwell made the most of an over-stretched Burnham defence to slot home.

The Greens will be looking for their first back-to-back victories since October when they host promotion chasers Bedfont Town at Julius Martin Lane on Saturday.

Popular striker Dubi Ogbonna meanwhile, could be set to sign for Ryman League side AFC Sudbury after more than a year with the Greens. The 19-year-old made more than 60 appearances for Soham, scoring 29 goals.
