A LARGE number of members attended the traditional drive in of the newly elected captains at Ely City Golf Club. The event marks the start of the new captain's year of office with all four captain's having to drive a ball off the first tee in front of the members.
This year the club captain is Martin Bright. who joined the club eight years ago. Martin has made it be known that whilst he is hopeful of a successful year in the various club matches he is also looking forward to having some fun along side the serious aspect of the game.
Lady captain for 2006 is Val Dant. Val is a competitive player as shown by her drive in of some 190 yards, a distance the club captain failed match on this occasion.
Seniors captain is Mike Wood, a long-standing member of the club who captains a strong senior section. Junior captain is Philip Day; Philip showed his ability off the tee by out driving the other captains.
In the evening the club held its annual Valentine's Dinner Dance where Martin and Val took to the floor in the first dance of the evening.
