In a tight match Ely won the semi-final against Thyerington from Cheshire. The hero in last four was Clive Harrison, who took the pressure of being the last man left on the course and sealed a 3-2 win with a crucial par on the tough 17 at the Monetcastillo Golf Resort.

Ely went into the final as underdogs against Millbrook from Bedfordshire but a courageous fight back saw Mark Smith and Neil Brosnan push the opposition to the last hole but eventually Millbrook ran out 5-0 winners and deservedly returned to the UK as national champions.

Captain Mark Smith said: “As captain of the team I am very proud of what the team have achieved and we look forward to having another go in 2018.

“I would like to thank the club and supporters that came out to Spain and Mark Nicholas who provided sponsorship.”
