Ely City Mens I 6 Market Deeping I 4

PERFECT conditions for hockey at Little Downham Road meant that Ely were able to start strongly against the team sitting at the top of division 3NW, Market Deeping.

However, within 10 minutes Deeping had taken the lead with a break-away goal.

Five minutes later Ely drew level with a Grant Gilmour strike, and two minutes after that man-of-the-match Gilmour doubled his tally and put Ely 2-1 up.

Goalkeeper Ash Gilmour flattened a Market Deeping forward in the D soon afterwards however, and the penalty flick beat the stopper to level the scores.

Five minutes before half-time Ely scored another goal but Deeping replied yet again, leaving the score at 3-3 going into the break.

Coming out for the second-half Tommy Hugo quickly put Ely ahead, but once again the visitors came back to draw level.

Entering the last 15 minutes both teams pushed for the win and Gilmour bagged his first hat-trick for Ely to make it 5-4.

Julian Palmer then scored his first goal in three years for the team to wrap things up.
