Ely City boss Brady Stone insists that his side will keep giving their best until the end of the season, despite their relegation being confirmed this week.

Despite picking up a win and a draw over the Easter weekend, the Robins were hit with the news that they would be dropping out of the Kershaw Premier Division after FC Clacton’s victory over Wivenhoe.

Stone said he had the backing of club chairman Bob Button to continue at the helm next season and was already making plans and talking to his squad.

He said: “Obviously we were disappointed with being relegated because the team produced two of their best performances of the season.

“The work rate was fantastic and we stopped them playing in both games. I was proud of how the boys played and it was nice to get a win at home for the fans against Felixstowe.

“We want to keep going now and chase down Diss Town, we don’t want to finish bottom and we will be aiming to pick up as many points as we can.”

Ely started the Easter weekend with a surprise 2-0 win over high-flying Felxistowe and Walton United at the Unwin Ground. Sam Goodge and Ben Green were on target for the Robins to help them secure a first victory since January.

Then, on Monday, Ely travelled to second placed Godmanchester and fought bravely to pick up a point in a 0-0 draw.

Stone said: “Me and Martin [Grey] have spoken to the squad about next season and we have told the lads that if they want to keep playing for us, they are going to have to work hard.

“The chairman supports what we are doing and we have the under 18s up and running this summer so we have a lot to look forward to.”

Ely return to action again on Saturday when they travel to face Stanway Rovers. Kick off is 3pm.
