PYMOOR'S recent run of good form was brought to an abrupt end at the weekend at the hands of a dynamic St Ives side.

Steve Saberton's men were imperious at Willingham last week, but some polished fielding from St Ives coupled with a volatile pitch saw them notch up just 105 runs, a score St Ives knocked off with relative ease, consigning them to a five wicket loss.

Opting to bat first, Pymoor struggled to deal with some unpredictable bounce that time and again, saw good length balls rear up to shoulder height. Aside from a respectable innings of 33 from Jamie Russell, there was little to cheer for Pymoor as they were reduced to 105 all out.

Though they had a small target to defend, Pymoor had the opportunity to take early wickets on a wicket conducive to their cause, but the home pace attack proved unable to cause a similar level of strife for St Ives with ball in hand.

A change in pace with the introduction of spinner Paul Ruskin, brought some hope for the home side as he claimed 3-22, but it wasn't enough to rattle St Ives and they reached 109-5 in a little under 30 overs to claim victory.

Despite the loss Pymoor's Darren Ebbs, believes the team are still in with a shot at the league title, he told the Ely Standard: "We are still up with the big teams in third place and crucially we still have to play Wimblington twice, who are in second place so I think it is all still in our hands at this stage.
