VICTORY abounded at Littleport over the weekend as both the first and second teams picked up maiden league wins.

Port's second team lead the way for the club as they clinched a crushing eight wicket victory over March III following weeks of frustratingly narrow losses. A resurgent first team also tasted the joy of success with a 24-run win over Saffron Walden.

Trevor Berry was the undoubted hero for the second team in their game at home to March as his masterful figures of 6-4-4 set down an early marker for performance of the season and helped the home side dismiss March for just 45.

Though Berry's performance would undoubtedly have clinched the plaudits, he was readily abetted by the sterling work of Nigel Heaps (2-15) Nicky Marsh (2-14) and Doug Marsh (2-4), all figures worthy of hearty celebration in their own right.

Port's task was simple in riposte and, but for a few wobbles for Marsh and Simon Jennings, they knocked off their total in less than 12 overs.

Away at Saffron Walden meanwhile, the first team took the opportunity to bat first and, with it, racked up a more than useful total of 232, a forcible scoring rate of more than five an over.

Terry Stone's knock of 68 at the top of the order was the highlight of a vastly improved batting performance from Port. Scores of 42 and 45 from Scott Connop and Jamie Leonard respectively, typified a cohesive batting display.

With ball in hand, the visitors found it hard going against an impossibly resilient Saffron top order but with a few crucial wickets were soon whittled out and the lack of depth in the home side began to tell.

Thanks to the indomitable efforts of Danny Mason (4-54) and Jamie Leonard (2-48) Port took the last five wickets for a mere 29 runs and with them, the lions share of the points.
