Hockey St Neots 3 Ely City 0
Ely’s wait for their first victory of the season rolls on following a disappointing loss at Cambridgeshire rivals St Neots, on Saturday.
City are without a win in five matches played this term and their bid to turn their fortunes around got off to a poor start at the weekend at St Neots as they conceded a penalty corner in the second minute.
Buoyed by this early success, the hosts poured forward and doubled their advantage when Katie Bates seized on a loose ball in the visitors’ D and made no mistake from close range.
Despite stepping up their tempo in the second half, Ely couldn’t find a way past the home defence, with the decisive goal coming 10 minutes from time, Sue Glover pouncing on a loose ball and flicking it past the goalkeeper.
Ely return to action on Saturday when they host Long Sutton at the Downham Road ground.
