AN egg-cellent Easter weekend for Soham saw them boost their slim play-off hopes with back-to-back league wins.

Steve Fallon’s side picked up a 3-2 win over Needham Market at Julius Martin Lane on Saturday before putting three past Wroxham in a comfortable 3-0 win on Easter Monday.

The two wins, coupled with slip ups by Heybridge Swifts and Aveley saw Soham move onto 63 points, just three behind the latter, albeit having played two games more. The Greens have just six games remaining this season.

On Monday, Soham took the lead at Wroxham through the prolific Robbie Mason, who ran onto a long ball from Neil Andrews to slot past the exposed goalkeeper for his 29th goal of the season.

Fallon’s charges doubled their advantage shortly after the 30-minute mark as Mason collected Buster Harradine’s low cross to lob past the Wroxham keeper, collecting his 30th goal of the season.

Wroxham enjoyed the better of the play for much of the early stages of the second half, though Dan Bircham in the Soham goal was seldom troubled.

The Greens made sure of the points with little more than 10 minutes to go as substitute Lewis McDonald headed a corner into the path of Andrews, who mopped up from close range.

The win followed just two days after their victory over Needham Market. Mason put Soham ahead after 22 minutes before Elliot Crowe equalised for the visitors.

The hosts needed just three minutes to get back in front, though, as Harradine lashed home from the edge of the area.

Needham looked to have earned themselves a point late in the second half as Matt Poxon caught Soham napping to latch on to a long throw and poke home. It was Soham who had the final say however, as substitute McDonald finished from just six yards out after Harradine’s free-kick evaded the visitors’ defence.
