A GALLANT Ely side lost out 4-2 to league leaders Felixstowe at the weekend.

Since the relegation of Ipswich from the National League last season, Felixstowe have seen an influx of top players and their national experience showed early on as they laid siege to the Ely area.

The visitors opened the scoring with from a short corner as a loose ball fell at the feet of a lurking centre forward who shot high into the Ely net.

The home side continued to battle against the strong Felixstowe midfield and soon levelled the scores with their first short corner of the game as skipper Chris Purllant flicked low past keeper.

Stowe restored their lead with a well worked short corner routine, and moved into a 3-1 lead following a flowing move.

Ely pulled a goal back as Purllant again drove a trademark unstoppable short corner strike past the Stowe defence but Ely began to tired towards the end of encounter and Stowe netted late on to seal the win.
