FORDHAM Cricket Club rounded off their league campaigns with convincing wins on Saturday and have finished the season on a high note, with the first team winning three of their last four games, the second team winning their last three and the third team also ending up with a victory.

On a glorious day, both pitches were still affected by overnight rain, but the first team coasted to a seven-wicket victory at Bluntisham and the second team destroyed St Ives II with an outstanding performance in the field.

At Bluntisham, the home team batted first with Dighton and Hunter playing steadily.

But when the partnership was ended on 37, wickets began to fall at regular intervals.

Ian Jellyman removed both openers at the same score, and only Wright (38 not out) and Collen (19) added to the openers contributions of 18 a-piece.

Jellyman finished with 3 for 44, Gavin Harding 2 for 17 and Jason Harding 2 for 29 as Bluntisham totalled 139 for 9, with one man absent ill.

Clinton Cornwell - although wicket-less - bowled 10 overs for the concession of just 19 runs.

Harding and Chris Rule then compiled 44 for Fordham's first wicket, with Rule departing for 29.

But after Matt Foulds had gone, Harding and Mark Abbott formed a match-winning partnership of 81 for the third wicket to see their side virtually home.

Abbott was eventually dismissed for 53 and Harding remained unbeaten on 43 as Fordham reached their target with seven wickets in hand.

ON a very wet pitch, Fordham's seconds were made to work very hard for every run against St Ives II.

Stand-in opener veteran Roger Morley made a defiant 19 before being forced to retire, but it was a 69-run partnership between Scott Blaber and Steven Morley that gave the innings respectability.

Blaber made 40 and Morley hit 17 as Fordham completed their overs with 129 for 9 on the board.

Craig Theobald claimed the first three wickets as the visitors were reduced to 35 for 3 in response, but they were blown away in the next 10 overs following the introduction of young bowler Charles Forden.

He recorded sensational figures of 5 for 7 from six overs, as the team backed its bowlers with superb fielding, catching and throwing.

St Ives crumbled to 52 all out, having lost their last seven wickets for 17 runs.

Fordham's final match of the season is on Sunday with the annual fixture against the President's XI.
