FORDHAM failed to capture the crucial last wicket as they lost out to Warboys in their penultimate Tucker Premier match of the season.

Both sides struggled with the bat but it was Fordham’s failure to use all of the allotted overs that ultimately led to their single-wicket defeat.

The home side lost their first wicket with the score on 21 and two more fell as they reached 50.

But, it was the loss of wickets six, seven and eight that really put them on the back foot. Mark Silcock, with 24, and a cameo of 17 from Mark Abbott were the early contributors and a spirited 29 from Nick Foulds and 18 not out from Chris Reay gave the innings a semblance of respectability as their side were finally dismissed for 126, with an alarming eight overs still remaining.

Matthew Lavender and Jack Skidmore claimed three wickets a piece for the visitors.

Warboys compiled 33 runs for their first wicket but Fordham then fought back magnificently with the ball.

The visitors slumped from 62-3 to 90-5 and then lost three wickers for just two runs after reaching a three-figure total.

It was nail biting stuff all the way but Warboys’ last pair at the crease just managed to see their side home by the narrowest of margins, despite the valiant efforts of bowlers Chris Reay (4-32), Jason Harding (3-24) and Phil Dean (2-38).

Fordham’s final league match is at Weston Colville on Satuday and the curtain comes down on the side when they play Horsheath on September 22 in the DJ Cup President’s Match.

The annual Billy Munns memorial match took place on Sunday with Tom Tits Select XI defeating a Fordham Select XI by six wickets.

In the 40-over match, the hosts made 167-9 but Tom Tits reached their target for the loss of just four wickets.
