A brace from William Fox helped Witchford Colts Whites under 14s produce a five-star performance to defeat rivals Cottenham Colts 5-1 in the final of the County Cup.
Fox’s double helped the Whites to a resounding victory in the final of the county-wide competition at the end of last month, with Archie Smith, Kai Wales and Owen Johnson also netting in the young stars’ fine performance.
Witchford began the tie on top, and took the lead thanks to some quick reactions by Fox, who pounced after an Archie Smith free kick was spilled by the Cottenham goalkeeper.
Smith’s strikes from distance caused Cottenham problems throughout the encounter and the visiting ‘keeper was powerless to keep out his 25-yard drive, which doubled the Whites’ lead.
The Whites had one hand on the cup when Fox added a third just before the break when he slotted home after an Ellis Garner corner.
Cottenham had a mountain to climb in the second half, and their task was made even harder 10 minutes after the restart when Owen Johnson volleyed home a fourth after a flowing passing move.
Cottenham rallied after conceding a fourth, scoring a disallowed goal before pulling a consolation goal back, but Witchford were too strong and notched a fifth and final goal through Wales’ neat header.
Witchford manager Nigel Smith was delighted with his side’s win, describing it as “an excellent team performance.”
